GUIDE TO FINDING THE BEST TOURS IN PARIS

LEVEL UP YOUR PARIS TRIP

Do You Really Need A Tour in Paris?

When planning your Paris itinerary, one thing you need to consider is what experiences you may need to invest in a group or private tour. While you can easily DIY experiences (we teach you how here), tour guides can be helpful. So, here are the main reasons to invest in a tour before your trip and which ones to choose.

Reason #1: Tickets are sold out on the official website

Tickets sell out on the official website because tour agencies purchase a high volume of tickets to resell.

So, unless you are lucky to find tickets for your travel date on the official website, you’ll have no option other than buying a group or private tour. You like won’t want to be stuck in the ticket line for at least 1-2+ hours wasting precious Parisian time 🙅‍♀️.

The most common experience that sells out very fast online is the Eiffel Tower. A tour will likely be your only option to visit inside.

Reason #2: The experience is just easier with a tour guide

There are experiences in Paris that it’s just more convenient to do with a tour guide. Can you DIY these experiences? Absolutely! We teach you how to DIY right here. However, if you feel overwhelmed with large crowds and are likely to get lost. Then, a tour guide will be perfect for you.

The classic example for this reason is the Musée du Louvre. This is the biggest museum in the world. Because the Louvre was extended over time, it’s a little “messy” and it’s easy to get lost. Another example is the Musée d'Orsay. While much smaller than the Louvre, this is a museum where a guide will teach you to appreciate the works of art at a whole new level.

Finally, Montmartre is also a great neighborhood to enjoy with a tour, especially if only have 2-3h to explore it, or you feel concerned about the pickpockets and scammers.

Reason #3: You're a first-time visitor or haven't visited Paris in a long time

There are fantastic tours that give you an overall feeling of Paris, which is perfect for first-time travelers visiting the city for 1-3 days. Or, if you'll be in Paris longer, but you want to do one or more day trips out of Paris.

Reason #4: Day Trips

One of the most commonly asked requests we have from our clients and Instagram community is for recommendation of tours for day trips out of Paris. While you can absolutely DIY your visit to these sites, if you prefer a tour guide, these options are ideal for you.

Reason #5: You're a foodie

A very easy way to uplevel your trip to Paris is by being intentional about your food experiences during your trip. Whenever we see travelers complaining in travel forums that the food in Paris is overrated, we can guarantee is because they made the following mistakes:

  • Asked advice in travel forums for where to eat
  • Didn't do any restaurant research before their trip
  • Only ate at food tourist trap restaurants (e.g., near attractions)

While we have our food recommendations pinned on a map for you as a separate resource (we're total French foodies, by the way), here's a curated list of food-related experiences in Paris to consider.

BONUS: Get Your Guide Fan?!

While we personally prefer tours from Viator, we know some travelers prefer Get Your Guide. Here's a curated list of tours to consider.
